The 2023 Tesla Roadster

I'm always very cautious when it comes to posting any messages about my personal purchases. I never want it to come across as the guy who brags about every little thing. I've worked hard for 25+ years and am very aware of how hard life can be and the struggles to make a living.

But as you read this, know that it comes from excitement and one of my dreams coming true: To be one of the first people to have the means and opportunity to make this possible. I hope this is a fun, educational read on this futuristic car and that it inspires you to go for something fun in life that drives YOU! I appreciate you reading my post.

Speaking of “fast enough,” this car will go from 0-60 mph in under 2 seconds, 0-100 mph in 4.2 seconds, with a quarter-mile time of 8.8 seconds and a top speed of over 250 mph. And a SpaceX options package will boost performance even more.

Featuring the now-classic Tesla lineament on an aerodynamically-styled body, this American supercar will match its new performance height with record efficiency – a target range of 620 miles! The Roadster introduces seating for four and a removable glass roof that stores in the trunk.

With a base price of $200,000, Tesla is accepting reservations for the $250,000 Founders Series model. A deposit of $50,000 will hold one for you in your choice of 12 awesome colors. By the way, mine will be Arctic White.

What's New for 2023?

When it enters production, the Roadster will rekindle the badge worn by the company's first model back in 2008. The sports car was originally scheduled to make its reappearance in 2021, but has been, obviously, delayed until next year.

How Much?

Tesla claims it will offer the base Roadster for $200,000 and a limited-edition Founders Series for $50,000 more. There are no details yet as to what differentiates the two, but only 1000 Founders Series models will be built.

EV Motor, Power, and Performance

In November 2017, when the Tesla Roadster was only a concept car, Musk imagined it having an unbelievable 60-mph time, top speed, and a quarter-mile time. Well, believe it. The 2023 edition will have all that and some bonus surprises. In addition, the Roadster will achieve all-wheel drive by utilizing two electric motors—one at the front and one at the rear—to drive all four wheels.

The powertrain is beyond incredible. Tesla hasn’t made the electric motor’s output official yet, but they did let slip that the Roadster’s torque will sit at around 7,375 pound-feet, which is, honestly, approaching absurd.

Range

The 200-kWh battery is said to provide up to 620 miles of range. Impressive, though I have a notion that number will be achieved only under very light use. Don’t expect it if you’re hitting the track for some pedal-to-the-metal torrid laps.

Real-World MPGe

The EPA hasn't released its ratings for the Roadster's fuel economy; those details will probably be posted closer to the car's on-sale date. The battery can go from nothing to fully charged in 3½ hours.

Interior, Comfort, and Cargo

A lightweight, removable glass roof stores in the trunk for an open-air, convertible driving experience. It has four seats, but the rear ones look as though they may not fit adults, given the Roadster's dramatically angled roofline. And Tesla's signature minimalist interior design is on full display.

The interior sports generously bolstered front seats, and Tesla’s notably large touchscreen system. There’s also a pass-through behind the screen, which keeps pace with the rest of the Roadster’s whimsical design.

Infotainment and Connectivity

A large touchscreen extends from the top of the dash all the way to the center console, with a cubby underneath it for storage. No vehicle in Tesla's lineup offers services such as Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, or Amazon Alexa compatibility, and it looks like the Roadster will follow suit. In fact, I’m not even expecting to find AM radio or SiriusXM in my car. Rather, I believe Tesla will provide an onboard Wi-Fi hotspot, Spotify integration, and a variety of visual entertainment apps (Netflix, Hulu, YouTube) to entertain drivers while they’re parked and charging.

Safety and Driver-Assistance Features

Further, I expect my Roadster (I ordered it in sparkling white) to come equipped with all of Tesla’s latest driver-assistance technology, including its famous Autopilot semi-autonomous driving system. Key safety features include:

  •  Standard automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection

  •  Standard lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist

  •  Available adaptive cruise control with a semi-autonomous driving mode

Warranty and Maintenance Coverage

The Roadster will offer the same standard warranty package as the rest of Tesla's lineup, which includes an eight-year warranty on the car's electric motors and battery pack. However, the Tesla will probably not come with a complimentary scheduled maintenance plan.

  •  Limited warranty covers four years or 50,000 miles

  •  Powertrain warranty covers eight years, regardless of miles

  •  No complimentary scheduled maintenance

All that said, I can’t wait to slide in behind the wheel and experience the absolute ultimate driving experience! Stay well, be safe, and happy motoring!
